Skrill and NETELLER implement Strong Customer Authentication
Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a new European regulatory requirement which comes into force from September 24, 2019.
In accordance with the new rules, Skrill implements additional authentication via SMS or email.
The implementation of Strong Customer Authentication is a requirement of the EU directive for payment service providers within the European Economic Area.
Important information for new users: when registering an account, SMS authentication is required. To do this, you need to specify a valid and unique phone number to which SMS will be sent with the code necessary to activate the account.
Current users will need to enter an SMS code in the following cases:
If necessary, instead of an SMS code, you can use a confirmation email (a verification letter with a link will be sent to the email address). Choose the most convenient of these options in the menu “Settings” / “Security” / “Authentication methods”.
Starting from September 24, 2019, strong customer authentication will be valid for all Skrill accounts. We recommend to make sure that the correct phone number is registered in your account profile.
If for some reasons you do not want to be checked by SMS, we recommend using NETELLER.
The new requirement is introduced with the only purpose of increasing the security of user accounts and online payments.
