Americans consider cryptocurrencies as New Year gifts

According to a new study carried out by BlockFi, cryptocurrencies may become a desirable holiday gift for residents of the United States. Preference is given to such digital currencies as Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin (DOGE) and Ethereum (ETH). The survey conducted among more than 1,250 Americans showed that every tenth resident of the country is going to give crypto to their family and friends as a holiday gift.

Americans consider cryptocurrencies as New Year gifts

Bitcoin is the leader in popularity by a large margin, 75% of respondents have chosen this digital currency as a gift. It is followed by Dogecoin and Ethereum. Nonfungible tokens (NFT) are not so popular yet. Only 2% of Americans would like to receive such a gift.

Moreover, cryptocurrency will likely become quite a hot topic for discussion at the festive tables. Every third respondent said that during the holidays they would prefer to talk about the most popular cryptocurrencies. Previously, the US people liked to discuss politics. Now millennials and Generation Z individuals are interested in digital currencies and ready to receive their salary in Bitcoins.

The survey also showed that less than a quarter of respondents know how to actually give crypto. BlockFi co-founder Flori Marquez believes that the growing awareness of digital currencies will benefit US residents. Crypto investments have already allowed some Americans to quit low-paid jobs.

BlockFi has also found out what plans for the next year the survey participants have. Almost 35% of millennials and zoomers plan to buy cryptocurrency in 2022. Gen Z individuals give their priority to Bitcoin and Dogecoin. Only 25% of representatives of the senior generation want to buy digital currency. About 15% of respondents are going to purchase NFT.

A similar study was recently conducted in Australia. More than 2,000 people aged 18 to 59 took part in the survey. The results showed that about a quarter of the country’s residents plan to give cryptocurrencies, mainly Bitcoin and Ethereum, as New Year gifts. The crypto merchandise, such as socks or hoodies with digital currency logos, as well as crypto themed books, is also a popular gift among Australians. About a third of Australia residents would like to give or receive NFT as a gift.
